ESCAPE TO VICTORIA
From charming countryside farmhouses, glamping with expansive views of Melbourne’s skyline, to relaxing coastal retreats in a wildlife eco-lodge, we have gathered some of our favourite destinations in Victoria for families, getaways with girlfriends and romantic nights to share with your loved one.
COUNTRY RETREAT: THE WHITE HOUSE, DAYLESFORD
This stunning country property filled with delicate vintage features and dreamy styling belongs to interior designer Lyn Gardener, owner of the well loved vintage homewares store Empire Vintage in Albert Park.
The perfect balance of industrial and country feel, the White House is the idyllic getaway to repose with your loved one or a weekend away with the girls. Starting with a gentle morning stroll to the nearby lake, cosy up and relax near the large open fireplace and peruse the wonderful library room filled with hand picked novels and magazines.
ELEMENTAL EXPERIENCE: ST JEROMES HOTEL, MELBOURNE CBD
For a completely unique camping experience, we couldn’t go past the new St Jeromes Hotel positioned on the rooftop of the Melbourne Central building.
Owner and creator Jerome Borazio has taken his own perspective of traditional camping and has created a magnificent campground where luxury accommodation meets the elemental outdoors. There are 25 luxury bell tents and five suites all sourced from the delightful team at Homecamp. Guests are treated to sweeping views of the city skyline, daily tai chi and dawn meditation classes, gorgeous breakfast hampers filled with the finest produce and 24 hour concierge service.
URBAN LUXURY: THE LARWILL STUDIO, PARKVILLE
Soothe away stresses and clear the mind at The Art Series Hotel’s newest member – the Lawill Studio. Just north of Melbourne in Parkville and a stone’s throw from Melbourne’s CBD, this studio is located with a view of lush green parklands and the luminous city in background. With a contemporary design and playful works from Australian artist David Larwill, the studio has been designed to relax and inspire the senses.
A large host of hotel facilities have been provided to help you achieve optimum health and well being during your stay, including a mini bar brimming with fresh local produce. Explore an art tour with a private guide, enjoy stretching on your in-room yoga mat on the designated yoga channel, bliss out with your meditation guide.
Step outside and relax in the landscaped gardens with a picnic or hire a Lekker bike and check out Melbourne on two wheels. If bike riding isn’t your thing, you can also zip around in an eco-friendly Smart Car or stroll around with a complimentary Bugaboo Bee pram if you want to venture out with your little ones.
BUDGET FAMILY: POINT LEO CAMPING GROUND, MORNINGTON PENINSULA
For the ultimate nature family adventure, we love the gorgeous secluded Point Leo camping ground in Point Leo foreshore reserve, located right by the water and surrounded by the flora and fauna of native birds and wildlife.
Wake up to morning yoga classes organised by the Business of Yoga, Stand Up Paddle Boarding and hang ten at the Mornington Surf School nearby. There are powered sites and non-powered sites, with bookings required during peak season at Christmas, Easter and long weekend periods.
Coastal Retreat: Great Ocean Eco Lodge, Cape Otway
Escape town to the stunning Great Ocean Road, and drive along until you discover the flourishing, serene farmland by the seaside town of Apollo Bay. The Great Ocean Eco Lodge is a unique and delightful wildlife nature retreat, established and owned by the Conservation Ecology Centre.
Energise, relax and explore the dawn guided platypus canoe tours and the Great Ocean Walk experience. Enjoy lunch from a beautifully prepared gourmet picnic basket filled with local cheese and produce, and relax by indulging in a massage in nature. You’ll sleep well knowing that the Eco Lodge is completely solar powered and ecologically responsible, and all profits are invested into the local wildlife.
