Yes, all of our products have been independently tested and are 100% biodegradable. Some elements of our packaging are not biodegradable, though.
Please ensure you are always disposing of your sanitary items hygienically in sanitary bins or your own waste bin at home.
Your health and the integrity of our products is our number one priority. In some of our products, we use tamper-proof, sealed plastic packaging to ensure the integrity of the product. However, we're constantly innovating and looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, including new ways to use different packaging materials.
Unfortunately, in Australia soft plastic recycling is temporarily unavailable, but we hope it will be back soon. You can find out the latest at the Australasian Recycling Label website. In NZ, you can recycle soft plastics through the Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme. Find your nearest drop-off point.
Due to our climate challenges, it’s not possible to source certified organic cotton in Australia.
We only source our cotton from certified organic farms with the highest standards. All cotton farms we work with have been through strict auditing processes.
No. All of our products are vegan.
All of our tampons and most of our pads are made right here in Australia. Our maternity and overnight pads are made to the highest standards in Europe.
We occasionally offer samples at events and online. If you’d like to stay in the loop on upcoming future events or sampling drives, please sign-up to our database so we can keep you in the loop!
All TOM Organic tampons meet relevant standards required by the TGA.
Our products do not have a specific expiry date, but we recommend using them within 3 years. Ensure the products you use are still in their original packaging and that there is no damaging to the protective packaging.
You can shop our maternity pads online, and also find them nationally in Chemist Warehouse, Amazon and via our online store.
Tampons
All of our tampons are made with 100% organic cotton with no synthetic veil on the outside of the products. This means we’re unable to use a twist mechanism as it will catch on the fibres. A tiny bit more work to get them open but we think it’s worth it.
To select your tampon size, it is best to be in tune with your period flow and think about whether it is light, medium or heavy. This can change from the beginning to the end of your cycle.
If you’re unsure, it’s best to start with the lowest absorbency for your flow. If the tampon is full and starts to leak in less than 4 hours, best to go up to a larger size.
Pads & Liners
Our pads and liners are made with a 100% organic cotton top sheet with a plant-based core. The only material that touches your skin is 100% organic cotton.
Please get in touch with us at hello@tomorganic.com.au so we can help you further
All cotton used to produce our pads is certified organic, but there are other elements to the products that are not organic. The plant-based core is not certified organic and is important for optimal performance and absorbency.
Reusable Menstrual Cup & Microwave Steriliser
Our menstrual cups are manufactured here in Australia with 100% Medical Grade silicone
First, rinse your cup thoroughly with a fragrance-free, oil-free mild soap under running water paying special attention to cleaning out the small holes around the rim. Then, sterilise your here in the microwave (1000W) for 60 seconds using our TOM Organic steriliser. Or, by placing the cup in boiling water on the stove for 4-5 minutes (don’t let it touch the bottom). For more detailed instructions, please read the information booklet supplied with your cup.
Our microwave period cup sterilisers have been independently tested to ensure they meet health and safety standards and kill 99.9% of bacteria commonly found on a menstrual cup.
You can use any fragrance-free, oil-free mild soap.
It’s really important that silicone is stored in a breathable environment, so we suggest you store your menstrual cup in the cotton bag provided in between cycles. The steriliser case should only be used for sterilising and for carrying your cup for less than 12 hours.
Menstrual cups work by creating suction below your cervix and collecting period blood, instead of absorbing it, unlike what a tampon or pad does.
No, it is not recommended to have sex with a cup in. A menstrual cup is not a contraceptive device and will not protect against pregnancy or STIs. If you are looking to explore having sex whilst on your period read our guide to period sex.
Yes, you can do almost anything with your cup inserted, like you would a tampon as long as you have a secure seal.
If you are regularly washing your cup between each use, staining should be limited. We do not advise bleaching or cleaning your cup with anything other than warm soapy water as harsh chemicals can both deteriorate the silicon and be harmful to your body. If your cup is stained, it’s just part of your period and something we think you should own and be proud of!

Get comfortable, take a deep breath, go for a walk and try again in 10-30 minutes. Then try again, squeezing down on the sides of your cup. The more relaxed you are the easier the cup will be for removal so please remain calm and relax your body to generate the removal of the cup.
If you are unable to do so we would be happy to support you over the phone (during Melbourne office hours on +61 3 8595 4390), however, we also encourage you to visit your local GP or hospital department for support in removal.
Period Underwear
When using your Period Underwear for the first time we recommend starting on a lighter day of your period or if you’re at home to see how they will work best for you and your flow. If you’re not at home on or a light day of your period, we recommend keeping a tampon, pad or a spare pair of underwear handy the first time you try them for backup. Keep in mind that the mid-rise period briefs hold 3 regular tampons worth and the bikini period briefs hold 2 tampons worth, so use that to gauge if/when you will likely need to change them over if it is less than a day.
It really depends on how you use them with your cycle. If you use them exclusively, we would suggest 5-7 pairs of period underwear in a cycle. If you use them with other TOM products as back-up around 2-3 pairs.
We have created our range in alignment with Australian standard sizing. Please refer to the table that shows which size number matches each size.
2XS = 6
XS = 8
S = 10
M = 12
L = 14
XL = 16
2XL = 18
3XL = 20
Based on feedback, we recommend sizing up to avoid the leg holes of the briefs feeling too tight
If you measure between two sizes (e.g. your hips measure a size M (12) and your waist measures a size L (14)), we recommend purchasing the larger size.
To find the best fit read through our full measurement guide.
Our period underwear has been designed with a unique 4 layer system that uses the natural properties of fabrics to wick away moisture, absorb and be stain & leakproof. We use breathable organic cotton to keep you feeling clean and dry – and our moisture-wicking core absorbs up to 3 tampons worth of blood.
If you take good care of your period underwear, during and after you use them, by washing them in a cold wash and line drying them. They should last for up to 40 washes.
Rinse your organic cotton period underwear in cold water as soon as you can after removal and rinse until the water starts to run clear.
Wash in a washbag (this is not essential, but will help your underwear last longer).
Wash on a cold cycle – max up to 30 degrees.
Line Dry only – we recommend drying in the sun if you can, sunlight has natural anti-microbial properties that are good for your undies.
Hold the Softener – fabric softener is your period undies worst enemy – it leaves a “water-proof” film on textiles that can counteract the naturally absorbing properties of your period undies.
You sure can, pop them in with your regular wash – in a washbag if you have one (or just straight into the machine if you don’t), no need to do a special wash just for your period undies.
Yes they are – we only use vegan materials in all of our products.
Don’t worry – we’ve all done it once, if you’ve accidentally thrown them in the dryer them once or twice you’ll be fine to keep using them. If you’re tempted in winter or you desperately need a clean pair we really don’t recommend using a clothes dryer for your period briefs – the heat will deteriorate the waterproof layer and may cause the underwear to start leaking or deform.
Yes! You can pick a mix of sizes from our Period Briefs 2XS – 3XL (AU6-20) and between size 1 & size 2 in our Cup.
