PRODUCT GUIDE FOR HEAVY, MEDIUM AND LIGHT FLOW

Some of you might be all over this topic and know exactly what you need and when you need it. Others will not, and this article is for you. To help you better understand your flow and the products you might need.

To make it easy to understand, we’re going to break it up into heavy, medium and light flow. We’ll also boost these segments with loads of little product tricks and tips.

Most women will bleed between 4-7 days. It might surprise you that on average you will lose between 2-4 tablespoons worth of fluid each month. Which is roughly the size of a shot glass.

The products you use during this time might need to be switched up according to the intensity of your flow. So, with that in mind, please find your ultimate TOM product guide below.

HEAVY FLOW

WHAT TO USE:

MID RISE BRIEF, SUPER TAMPON, PERIOD CUP OR SUPER PAD

Any TOM product with the word ‘super’ in front of it is going to be your period BFF. The mid rise brief is your underwear of choice because it can hold up to three regular tampons’ worth of fluid. And of course, the cup will always have your back in that it can be worn for up to eight hours.

Wearing a period cup can reduce the number of days of your period. It can speed up the process by half a day or a full day. It doesn’t change how much blood you lose, but it can collect that blood quicker. By collecting it quicker, you miss out on those days towards the end of your period where you’re spotting.

Your cycle is always forever changing and can become heavier (or lighter!) post childbirth.

MEDIUM FLOW

WHAT TO USE:

BIKINI OR MID RISE BRIEF, REGULAR TAMPON, PERIOD CUP OR REGULAR PAD

Anything with the word ‘regular’ in the name is your go-to here. You can choose either brief style too.

There are some people out there who will have a medium flow for the entirety of their period. In which case, the 32 bathroom pack of regular tampons might be a wonderful (and cost effective) option for you.

Another period pro tip: if you wear regular tampons in the day, then the mid rise period brief overnight might be the best decision you ever make. They hold up to three regular tampons worth of fluid and provide a leak-free sleep.

Another top tip: switch to a period brief or cup on days where you’re out and about. Such as picnics, camping and so forth. Why? Because no one loves changing tampons in a public bathroom! And wearing either the brief or cup can save you the need to change as regularly as they both can be worn for up to eight hours.

LIGHT FLOW

WHAT TO USE:

BIKINI BRIEF, MINI TAMPON, PERIOD CUP, OR LINER

The mini tampon is your BFF. For some people, their period is heavy for the first few days then extremely light for multiple days which means that they need a number of different period care options.

Our pro period tip: our seriously-soft and comfy liners might just be your MVP. Not sure if you’re still bleeding? Liner. Not sure when your period is coming? Liner. Heading out and need peace of mind? Liner. When in doubt, liner it out. Period briefs are also a brilliant safety net when you don’t want to be left red-faced or with an unnecessary laundry pile.
