TRENDING: OUR PICK OF ECO-LUXE BRANDS

Creating quality clothing lines that have less environmental impact is high on the agenda for a growing list of local eco-conscious designers such as Gorman, Bassike and Kow Tow.

Here are TOM Organic’s picks of beautiful brands we admire who are committed to ethical and sustainable production.

BASSIKE

Combining luxury and comfort, designers Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan established Bassike together with a vision to create relaxed beautiful everyday pieces made locally in Australia. Their range consists of wearable classics with a twist, focusing on premium quality, luxe organic cotton jersey basics that we can’t live without. The perfect pieces to add comfort to an outfit or to wear when you want to slip into weekend mode for a more relaxed vibe.

GORMAN ORGANIC

Described as the pioneer of ethical fashion, an unwavering commitment to sustainable fashion is at the heart of Lisa Gorman’s success. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s iconic fashion labels, the Gorman Organic collection uses organic-certified yarns and recycled fibres blended throughout their eclectic cozy jumpers, bold wide leg pants and colourful tees. Their bright sustainable fabrics are sourced from non-chemical processing suppliers to create quirky and fun pieces.

KOW TOW

New Zealand fashion label Kow Tow is our pick for timeless polished office staples for both women and men. Their 100% certified fair trade organic cotton pieces are mindfully and sustainably created from seed to garment. We love the pure cotton dresses, warm jumpers and oversized trench coats for our winter essentials.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

At the global luxury level, Stella McCartney is the leading eco-crusader, a long-time vegetarian, environmentalist and animal rights activist. Stella consciously veers away from leather and fur, even though it costs her 70% more to produce leather free handbags. McCartney is also the creator of a sporty collection for Adidas, where the same green ethos is applied. The use of ethical materials is something Stella believes is her point of difference and one that no one else is playing in at the luxury end of the fashion market.

ALAS THE LABEL

Alas delivers the ultimate comfortable and cool sleepwear, endeavouring to create a brand that is socially and ecologically responsible. All of the pieces in ALAS collections are produced under fair labour and are produced in India using quality organic cotton by local printers and weavers. Their use of fresh pops of colour and cute playful prints have us falling in love with pyjamas, – and as if we needed an excuse to wear our pyjamas all day!

MIME SWIMWEAR

Our favourite Australian owned and manufactured swimwear brand offers classic gorgeous one-pieces and separates, made with Italian fabric from recycled materials. The genius team behind Mime collect ghost fishing nets that are recovered by volunteer divers which is created into lycra that is used to make their luxury range. Peruse their gorgeous website for your next swimsuit for the summer holidays.
